"It is more important to know where you are going than to get there quickly."
-- Mabel Newcomber
Over 10 years ago I had a mentor who introduced me to the concept of 'having a mission statement for my life'. This came at a perfect time for me, since at that time, I was really wondering which direction to go and what was the purpose of my life.
Since then, I have re-evaluated my mission statement many times and even after all these years, mine is still ringing true and inspiring me to continue doing what I do.
So, I began teaching others how to create a mission statement for their life.
It can be a powerful tool to consciously co-create your goals, dreams, aspirations and life story.
Are you ready for this?
First you write down in a list as many descriptive adverbs and adjectives you can that you feel resonate with your heart, your soul and who you are at the core.
I started like this:
Inspiration, empowerment, self actualization, excellence, health, happiness, achievement, action, adventure, peace, service, balance, personal growth, and on and on like this...
After you have a list of about 20-50, you select the 5 or so that MOST resonate with your soul.
For me I selected these: inspire, achievement, excellence, personal growth, self actualization and balance
Then you put them together into a sentence that works.
Here is mine:
I inspire others to achieve excellence through a balance of personal growth and self actualization.
Now you try it!
Keep in mind. Your mission statement can fluctuate from time to time and as you grow, go back and re-assess if it still resonates for you.
This can be a powerful way to stay on track with your soul's purpose and to co-create a life of meaning.
